Description:

Manufactured in 1919, this is a very fine example of a pre-World War II commercial Colt Government Model pistol. The left side of the slide has the two-line, two-block address/patent dates separated by the Rampant Colt, and the right side has the caliber marking. The left of the trigger guard is marked "VP" and "5" while the right is marked "C". The right side of the frame has the Government Model marking over the serial number. It has the "old model" features including the long smooth trigger, wide checkered hammer, non-dished frame, and smooth flat mainspring housing with a lanyard loop. The barrel has a polished chamber and is marked "S" in front of the lug. Fitted with diamond pattern checkered grips and an unmarked two-tone magazine. The included copy of the factory letter confirms the current configuration (grips not listed) as well as shipment to Simmons Hardware Co. in St. Louis on 13 June 1919.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 85% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, primarily on edges near the muzzle and around the ejector port. The grips are also very fine with minimal handling marks, four deep period applied cut grooves visible in the butt of the right panel, and crisp checkering overall Mechanically excellent.
