Originally produced in May 1943 and subsequently arsenal upgraded to the M1D Sniper configuration by Tooele Army Depot in 1969. A procedure more typically performed on Springfield-made M1 receivers vs. Winchester receivers, rifles so converted were used as sniper weapons during Korea and the Vietnam War. The receiver leg is etched "TE/4-69", and it has the standard blade front and peep rear sights, "DRC" marked windage drum, Springfield bolt, relief cut operating rod and "S-A-2-52" dated barrel, and a complete Springfield Armory trigger assembly with a milled Winchester trigger guard. The stock has a circled "P" on the wrist and a "MRT/2 52" marked leather cheekpiece (no screws), green canvas sling and a checkered steel buttplate. The reproduction M84 scope is serial numbered "8143" on the M84 data plate, with a metal sun shield and a rubber eyepiece. Also included with the rifle is a T-37 prong type flash hider. Very fine as upgraded to M1D specification with 98% of the light gray arsenal type reparkerized finish showing only minor edge wear from minor hand cycling. The stock and hand guards are all in fine condition with no visible handling marks after being arsenal refurbished. The scope retains 99% of its current blue finish, and the optics are clear and sharp.
