Manufactured in 1897, this is an excellent, early production, Mauser Model 1896 "cone hammer" pistol. This beautiful pistol has the early long extractor, milled panel frame with the raised rear panel on the left side, the dovetailed firing pin retainer, and early wide trigger. The right side of the barrel extension has the Mauser antler firing proof, and the left side has the "crown/crown/U" proof. The chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N". It has the military style adjustable rear sight graduated from "1" to "10", with the fixed front sight. It has the standard 23-groove walnut grips, both correctly numbered on the back sides, and a lanyard ring and stud on the butt. The included hardwood shoulder stock is numbered to match the pistol on the hinge assembly.

Fine, with 70% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina and mild edge wear and handling marks overall. Some light pitting is present around the grip frame, with pitting under the grips. The stock is also fine, with 60% original blue on the correct matching numbered hinge, mixed patina on the balance of components, and scattered mild dings on the wood. Mechanically excellent.
