Manufactured in 1881 as a Second Model with dust cover rail attached to the receiver with two screws and dust cover with serrations at the rear. The special order, extra length barrel is marked with the two-line address/King's patent marking and, correctly, is not marked with the caliber designation. The upper tang is marked with the model designation, and the serial number is on the lower tang. The barrel is fitted with German silver blade front and elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights. It is also fitted with a special order single set trigger. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included). The accompanying factory letter confirms the 30 inch octagon barrel and set trigger. Per the factory letter, the rifle was received in the warehouse on April 20, 1881 and shipped the same day.
Good, showing mostly a smooth grey-brown patina overall with a few scattered patches of light pitting and dark oxidation. The front sight blade appears to have been shortened. The wood is also good with a few hairline cracks, a few minor chips in the left edge of the wrist, and some scattered minor dings. Mechanically excellent.
