Manufactured in 1881 as a Second Model with dust cover rail secured to the receiver by two screws and dust cover with serrations at the rear. The included factory letter (copy) confirms the octagon barrel and plain trigger. The letter also states the rifle was received in the warehouse on November 18, 1881 and shipped the same day. The rifle is fitted with a blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The barrel has the two-line address/King's patent marking. The cartridge elevator is marked "44 CAL." "MODEL 1873" is stamped on the upper tang. The straight grip stock is fitted with a trapdoor buttplate (cleaning rod not included).

Very good. The rifle retains 20% original blue finish on the barrel along with traces of original blue finish in the protected areas of the remaining surfaces, otherwise a smooth brown-gray patina. The wood is also very good with the initials "WW" hand marked on the buttstock (right side) and minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
