Dutch Type III flintlock muskets are described on pages 389-395 of George D. Moller's book "American Military Shoulder Arms Volume I" with this exact musket pictured at the top of page 390. Page 389 of the book states, "The salient features of the Dutch (Type III) musket are: (1) the barrel is retained by three or four bands; (2) a lock with a flat, bevel-edged plate and cock; and (3) brass furniture." This example has a bottom mounted bayonet lug at the muzzle, a blade front sight mounted on the rear strap of the front barrel band, an iron ramrod pipe, and a faint unidentified maker mark on the lock. Fair, exhibiting a mix of refinished brown finish and smooth brown patina overall, some scattered areas of light pitting, and moderate flash pitting. Hammer is a crude replacement. Brass retains an attractive golden aged patina. Stock is also fair as sanded and re-oiled with scattered dents and scratches, some mild chips, and a large repaired split at the wrist. Mechanically fine.
