This musket is a Model 1798 Type II as it has a faceted brass pan. Around 1,000 of these muskets were manufactured by Whitney, circa 1802-1803. The lock is stamped with an eagle over "NEW HAVEN" in the center and "U. STATES" in a vertical arch at the rear. It has a bayonet stud on top of the barrel near the muzzle, brass blade front sight on the rear strap of the upper barrel band, sling swivels holding a modern leather sling and "GM" George D. Moller collection mark at the stock toe. Provenance: The George Moller Collection
Very good as reconverted to flintlock configuration, retaining much of the reapplied brown finish with the action having a smooth dark patina. There is some pitting which is heavier on the buttplate. The refinished stock is good with minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
