This pistol is heavily embellished from muzzle to pommel. The barrel and lock feature full-coverage chisel work along the visible surfaces consisting of scroll patterns, hunters, game animals, hunting dogs, birds, and mythical beasts. The metal is finished in gold. There is a key flanked by two crescents maker's marks on the barrel and lock. The furniture is also iron with gilt accents, including the mask pommel stud. The stock has extensive staghorn inlays engraved with floral patterns along with a serpentine design on the forends. The ramrod has a coordinating engraved staghorn tip. Consignor notes indicate provenance as R. Zschill'sche Waffen Sammlung, Rudolph Lepke's Kunst-Auctions-Haus Berlin 21 March 1900 Lot 48. Purchased from Gary Friedland 1987.

Rating Definition:

Very good with dark patina on most of the metal and considerable gilt finish remaining in the backgrounds of the deep patterns which remain distinct. The stock is also very good and has a coat of protective varnish applied crisp designs on the inlays, some faint cracks, gap at the front of the lock, and general mild wear. Mechanically untested.
