The early 19th century flintlock pistol was manufactured in France and decorated for the Ottoman/Turkish market. The lock is marked "PARIS," and the barrel has "20" and a St. Etienne proof on the left near the breech. The two-stage, smoothbore barrel has an engraved "burst" pattern around the blade front sight, crescent moon and star designs along with floral and border designs on the rear of the fore section, an engraved classical arms pattern at the front of the breech section, and raised relief chiseled sultan's turban, classical arms, and architectural designs on the rear of the breech section. The engraving is highlighted with gilt backgrounds. The standing breech has a rear sight notch and simple engraving. The lock has three domes with crosses flanking the "Paris" mark at center, a guttered semi-waterproof pan, frizzen spring roller, and gilt backed engraving with scroll, crescent moon, and martial designs. The stock has silver furniture that appears to have all had a gilt finish and features primarily relief classical martial motifs. The stock is also extensively inlaid with silver wire and floral patterns along its length, and the ramrod has a silver tip. Provenance: The Tom Lewis Collection

Fine with strong original gilt finish in many of the backgrounds, gray patina and some light oxidation on the balance of the lock and barrel, attractive aged patina and traces of gilt finish on the silver furniture and inlays, generally distinct designs throughout, a dent on the top at the muzzle, and mild age and storage related wear overall. The front wedge is absent. The stock is good and has some minor cracks and repairs, a few slivers of loose or absent wire, and some small flakes/chips at the edges. Mechanically fine.
