Manufactured in 1896 with the standard two-line address/patent dates marking and caliber designation on the top barrel flat. The "MARLIN SAFETY" marking is on top of the receiver, while the serial number is on the bottom and repeated on the left side of the upper tang and in the stock inlet. The special order 30 inch barrel is fitted with a combination front sight and an elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. It is mounted with a very finely figured, multi-point checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a special order checkered hard rubber buttplate featuring the Marlin Safety logo. The included factory letter lists this rifle in .38-55 caliber with a 30 inch octagon barrel, pistol grip stock, and in takedown configuration when it shipped on 11 July 1896. Excellent, retains 90% plus of the original blue finish on the barrel with some slight thinning on the magazine and 95% plus of the vibrant original case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina. The wood is exceptionally fine with a few scattered minor dings and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
