Description:

Offered here is a seldom encountered full nickel and deluxe Marlin Model 1889 rifle. The accompanying factory letter confirms the 24 inch octagon barrel in .32 caliber and pistol grip stock as well as shipped from the warehouse on April 28, 1893. Although the special order high end finishes are not listed in the factory letter, the nickel plating and deluxe walnut are most certainly factory. High end finishes were rarely noted in the Marlin factory records. Very few Model 1889s left the factory with special order features. The full nickel plating is especially rare. The rifle is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight, and a Lyman tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates legend ahead of the rear sight and "32 W" at the breech. The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY." The checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured walnut. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel, magazine, receiver, forend cap, and lever retain 90% plus original nickel plating with flaking blending to gray on the balance. The buttplate retains 60% original nickel plating. The hammer retains slight patterns of original case colors. The refinished wood is very good with smooth forearm checkering, a tiny chip at the upper tang and some blemishes in the grip checkering, otherwise some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
