Description:

Only an estimated 1,000 of these 3rd Models were manufactured from 1859 to 1860. This example has a period broad floral scroll engraving decorating the sides of the frame. The cylinder has an etched scroll motif. The top barrel flat has the standard two line Beals patent dates (56, 57, 58) over the Remington address marking. The back of the left grip panel is hand marked "Dr FW Johnson/Gresham/Wisconsin," and the back of the right grip panel is hand marked "F.V.J./Aug/1968." Both grip panels and barrel are numbered to the gun. Includes a period partitioned cardboard box containing a double sided Remington eagle powder flask and brass two cavity bullet model. Provenance: The Fred B. McDonald Collection; The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a bright polished appearance with flash type pitting, worn etching, and crisp engraving. The grips are fine with some softened checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good with repaired edges on the lid. The flask and bullet mold are fine with an attractive mellow appearance.
