Manufactured in 1917 and shipped to Springfield Armory on 6 July 1917, well before the end of World War I. The left of the slide is marked with the two-line, two-block patent dates and address with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations, while the right has the standard "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" marking. The left of the frame has the U.S. property marking and "GHS" inspection mark, and the serial number is on the right. The full blued barrel is marked "P/H" on the chamber and "5" on the left of the lug. Fitted with blade and notch sights, wide checkered hammer, long smooth trigger, short grip safety, diamond pattern checkered grips, and an unmarked two-tone magazine. An included document from a previous consignor states that this pistol was given to them by the widow of Captain A. Lawrence Brown, who carried the pistol during World War I. Provenance: The Milan J. Turk Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 97% plus of the original brushed blue finish with only the slightest edge and grip strap wear, handling marks, and a small spot of light wear on the left of the trigger. The grips are also excellent with a few scattered very light blemishes and otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This World War I U.S. Model 1911 pistol would be impossible to improve upon!
