Lawrence patent date and Sharp's 1852 patent date. Serial number marked on the upper receiver tang and no disassembly was performed to be able to view the underside of the barrel. Single letter Ordnance sub-inspection marks are stamped on some components. The inspected parts were what was left over after the government quit taking carbines in 1865. Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 97% attractive original blue finish on the barrel with a few light scratches, a few small nicks, and a few small patches of light freckling. Crisp markings overall. Retains 90% vivid original case colors with only slight fading on the barrel band, hammer, lever, and buttplate. Wood is very fine as lightly sanded and re-oiled with rich finish, a few light handling marks and dents, a few minor chips on either side behind the barrel band, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent. An exceptional example of a Sharps New Model 1863 percussion saddle ring carbine that would be a fine addition to any U.S. Martial collection!
