Description:

Most of the Model 1865 Spencer carbines were manufactured in 1865 and 1866 after the end of the Civil War. Many were used during Reconstruction and in the Indian Wars before the Springfield Trapdoors were widely issued. Features blade front and folding ladder rear sights, and the Stabler cutoff. Matching serial number "18569" marked underneath the barrel and on top of the frame. Small single letter inspection initials marked on various components, and "J.L.C" (Joseph L. Cottle) inspection initials on the left of the barrel at the breech. "80/G" branded into the right of the buttstock.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, retains 90% plus arsenal refurbished blue finish on the barrel with scattered moderate freckling and some light handling marks. 85% plus original case colors remain, strongest on the action with the buttplate lightly faded to a smooth gray patina. Wood is very fine with defined edges, some scattered light dents, a few light scratches, and branding in the right of the buttstock as mentioned above. Mechanically excellent. This Spencer-Burnside carbine would make an outstanding addition to any U.S. Martial collection!
