Description:

This large print appears to be unmarked but is attributed by various sources as a photograph by L.A. Huffman. It portrays Cheyenne Chief Two Moons, who was present at the Battle of Little Bighorn, an interpreter by the name of William Roland, and the historian Olin D. Wheeler atop a hill at the sight of the Battle of Rosebud 25 years after the battle, which Two Moons also took part in. It is likely that the photo portrays Wheeler taking notes of Two Moons' account of the battle. The plastic wrapping of the print is marked "981-800/Two Moon Interpreter Rowland O.D. Wheeler/(1901)?". Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931) was among the few photographers to capture ranching and Native American life in Montana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and enlarged many of his earlier photographs later in his life.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing a distinct image with some scattered mild staining, piece of upper right corner absent, and a couple minor tears.
