Description:

These Third Model Colt "Thuer" derringers were manufactured from 1870-1912. This example has been inscribed with the London retailer mark "F.T. BAKER. 88. FLEET ST. LONDON." Frederick T. Baker took over the existing business of Thomas Kerslake Baker at the Fleet Street address c. 1857, remained there until 1882 and later returned to the address for a short time from 1899-1900. There are British proofs on the bottom of the barrel and matching numbers on the left of the grip frame, bottom of the barrel, and inside each grip panel. The pistol otherwise has standard markings and features including the sloping hammer, as well as a, likely retailer added, lanyard stud on the butt. Includes a leather holster.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains 75% plus of the period, likely retailer applied, blue and silver finishes with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, primarily on the barrel. The grips are also very fine with a few scattered light handling marks and some light wear of the varnish on high spots. Mechanically excellent. The holster is fine with moderate wear and torn buttonhole.
