Description:

Steadily growing in popularity starting around the 16th century, canes reached the pinnacle of their popularity amongst the upper classes of society around the late-19th and early-20th centuries. They became more than just an accessory, but rather a symbol of ones status and wealth. This specific example has been masterfully relief carved with a cluster of toads and/or frogs with black accented pupils. There is a plain silver band where the grip meets the shaft. The shaft is of a light wood, possibly Malacca or fruit wood and tipped with contrasting dark horn. It measures 26 3/8 inches overall.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, the grip with a few scattered very fine age lines and some age darkening at the top from gripping, the silver band showing an attractively aged patina, and the shaft having some scattered light nicks and scratches, and retaining most of the varnish.
