Description:

This gun was manufactured c. mid-17th century. The high relief scenes of men marching off to war on the barrel and of a cavalry fight on the right side of the butt may be commemorating the Thirty Years War (1618-1648). The smoothbore barrel also has blade and groove sights and a chevron pattern on the tang. The non-bridled lock has floral scroll engraving. The furniture is brass. The buttplate is marked "No 43" by the toe. The club butt stock is marked "34" at the toe ahead of a small iron stud marked "5" and "49" on the right side of the wrist. Provenance: The Tom Lewis Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good with gray patina and minor oxidation on the barrel and lock, light aged patina on the brass furniture, and general mild overall wear. The stock is good and has crisp carving, numerous scattered insect holes, small flakes at the edges, and scattered light dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. Overall, an interesting and rare early flintlock sporting gun.
