Description:

Manufactured in the late 18th century by the famed English dueling pistol maker Robert Wogdon. "Wogdon" signed lock. "Wogdon London" signed top barrel flat. 1787 date coded silver hallmarks on the inside of the trigger guard and bottom of the buttplate. Intricate decorative engraving featuring animals, military scenes, and floral motifs including on the lock, breech section, side plate, trigger guard, and buttplate. Clamshell relief carving on top of the wrist ahead of an eight-pointed star shaped silver plaque on top of the wrist that reads "COLD STREAM GUARDS" in a circle surrounding a cross. The Coldstream Guards are the oldest continuously serving regular regiment in the British Army, with one of its principal roles being protection of the monarchy while also having fought in various conflicts around the world. Pineapple trigger guard finial. This attractive embellished Wogdon carbine would have likely been made for a high ranking officer.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period converted to percussion from its original flintlock configuration, retaining half of the refinished brown finish on the barrel, most of the refinished high polish blue finish on the lock and breech section, and scattered patches of light pitting. Silver displays bright with only light tarnishing at the edges. Stock is fine as lightly sanded and refinished with some light handling marks and a repaired section visible at the right tip of the forend. Mechanically excellent.
