Description:

Dynamic gendre Victorian depiction of French plowhorse guided by a French farmer by Xavier Raphanel (Fr: 1876-1957). This finely cast iron sculpture of a French farmer having his plow horse pulling on a wood log through the ground. The horse is showing the strain of the heavy loaded log as he is pulling with all his might as the farmer is standing by him guiding his path through the ground. The horse has oversized yoke which is attached to a circular ring on the back of the horse. The horse's reins are behind him held by the farmer as to guide the horse to the proper direction. The sculpture rests on a separate granite plinth. The work is signed on the rear corner. This is a fantastic depiction of rural French countryside living work conditions. Measurements: 25x8 1/2x18 inches. Weighs approximately 100 lbs.

Rating Definition:

Very good with some storage and handling marks as well as some age marks.
