This exquisite petite little double rifle is built on a miniature Model 21 frame made only on a special order basis, as it is the smallest frame they produce, smaller even than their diminutive .410 bore shotgun frames. The rifle has blued steel barrels with ramped beaded blade front sight, fixed notch rear sight with gold center-line on the raised rear quarter rib which is marked "CONNECTICUT SHOTGUN MFG./NEW BRITAIN CT. USA" and ".22 LR" bordered with two scrolls and a fleur-de-lis style flourish all in fine gold inlay, jeweled flats, 2 inch wedges of relief floral scroll engraving at either breech, and chambers with automatic ejectors. The coin grey finished boxlock action displays masterfully executed broad floral scroll engraving extending to the tangs and toplever surrounding six scenes of small game animals. The left side shows a squirrel on alert with raised tail and ears, the toplever has a chipmunk, the top tang has a prairie dog on alert, the right side shows a running hare, a beaver on the underside, and a weasel on the magnificently pierced trigger guard. All of the engraving on the gun is rendered in beautiful high relief over a matted background. The trigger plate is signed "R. SANZOGNI 07" to the right of the trigger for Italian Master Engraver Renato Sanzogni. Sanzogni was in charge of roll die cutting for Winchester and is responsible for several special editions, including the John Wayne commemoratives as well as being the head engraver at the famous Bottega C. Giovanelli engraving studio. The rifle features a gold single selective trigger and a blued tang mounted automatic safety switch. Exceptional exhibition quality feather crotch figured, fancy fleur-de-lis (Winchester 21-B pattern) checkered beavertail forend with ebony tip inlay and engraved fittings, including a tiny field mouse on the rotary latch release. The straight grip stock is of the same stunning quality with a blank gold inscription oval on the underside and horn heel and toe plates above and below the fleur-de-lis checkered bare butt. This rifle really breaks the mold of what one has come to expect from a high art double rifle, displaying North American small game as opposed to African dangerous game and being in the most beloved of all small bore cartridges, the .22 LR.
