Description:

The Winchester Model 97 trench shotgun gained worldwide fame in the trenches of World War I with its slam fire capability, and was extensively utilized in the Pacific Theater during World War II, remaining in Army and Marine inventory until the 1990s. This classic military shotgun is desirable in any condition, and examples of a World War II Model 97 trench shotgun in excellent, original condition are extremely scarce. Single bead sight on the bayonet lug/4-hole heat shield, with the barrel marked for cylinder choke, a 2 3/4 inch chamber, and "43" dated on the underside. Flaming bomb proofs are present on top of the barrel and on the left side of the frame next to "U.S." Ribbed forearm and smooth pistol grip stock with "G.H.D./Ordnance cannons" inspection cartouches marked on the left side, sling swivels, checkered buttplate and a 13 7/8 inch length of pull. Includes a 1918 dated Remington M1917 bayonet, green scabbard, and green canvas sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 90% plus original blue finish with cycling wear visible on the magazine tube, some light edge wear, and a few scattered patches of light pitting. Wood is also excellent with defined edges, some light scratches and handling marks, a crack on the left behind the receiver, a minor chip at the toe, and crisp cartouches. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is very fine overall. This excellent Winchester Model 97 trench shotgun would make a fine addition to any U.S. Military or World War II collection!
