Description:

Offered here is an outstanding work of modern firearms art by renowned Master Engraver Paul Piquette. Piquette spent over 20 years engraving for Smith & Wesson, becoming the company’s master engraver in 1980 after Master Engraver Russ Smith retired, and is currently the master engraver for Murduff's Jewelry. The revolver was manufactured in 1953 and subsequently decorated by Piquette with his stunning near full coverage engraving consisting mostly of floral scrollwork on punch dot background. The embellishment on the front of the right side of the frame consists of grape vine pattern on a matte background. The engraving on the cylinder between the flutes alternates between floral scrollwork and floral blossoms. The unusual engraving on the sides of the barrel rib consists of dots and stippled oval panels. String of pearl borders decorate the barrel, crane, cylinder and trigger guard. Even the ramp blade front sight is engraved with the floral scrollwork. There are also various North American big game inlays and engravings. The front of the crane features an engraved bobcat head with inlaid eyes. A large engraved bear on a stippled gold background appears on the side plate. The left side of the frame, crane and top of the back strap feature raised gold and silver inlaid heads of game (elk, bighorn ram, and mountain goat) with red stone inlaid eyes. Scrimshaw grips carry the images of a white-tailed deer and mountain goat. Paul Piquette has signed his masterpiece on the butt and both grip panels: “Piquette.” The frame, cylinder latch and cylinder pin are blued, and the remaining metal surfaces are plated in gold. Includes a leather bound Huey case with French cut interior. The case lid has a S&W label marked “ENGRAVED BY PAUL PIQUETTE” on the interior and a raised oval plaque inscribed “Smith & Wesson/Model/27” on the exterior. The case contains matching engraved oiler and container, two flat head screwdrivers, brush, cleaning rod, and two case keys. A canvas cover for the case is also included. Finally, there are several slides and six photographs (4 of the 6 photos are framed) of the revolver and an issue of Guns & Ammo which mentions Paul Piquette’s work for S&W.

Rating Definition:

Extremely fine overall as highly embellished by noted Master Engraver Paul Piquette, retaining 99% plus of the blue and gold finishes with only the slightest handling marks and highly attractive grain and color on the grips. Mechanically excellent. The case is excellent with minimal wear. A superb work of modern firearms art by noted Master Engraver Paul Piquette.
