Blued Bohler Stahl barrels with a single gemstone (possibly diamond) bead sight on the matted vent rib which is marked with a gold line and gold inlaid "ROY VAIL", 1966 dated German proofs, small wedges of floral scroll on either side of the breech with gold line inlays around a gold inlaid pheasant on the left and mallard on the right, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The coin finished boxlock action displays a pair of beautifully inlaid gold game scenes with a pointer and a pair of pheasants in a field on the left and a trio of mallards in flight over a pond on the right. The game scenes are surrounded by floral scrollwork as well as the Suhl Waffenschmied statue stamped on the underside. The gun is signed by Roy Vail on the lower barrel among the proofs, on the rear lump, and on the right action rail. The gun features a single trigger and tang mounted safety switch with gold inlaid "S". Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered three-piece forend with engraved fittings, including the Deeley latch release, and pistol grip stock with engraved blue grip cap, "DLM" in a gold inscription oval, and red rubber Pachmayr recoil pad. Excellent overall as upgraded by Roy Vail, retaining 99% blue and gold,97% plus coin with some areas of darkening, crisp engraving, minor handling evidence, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
