This model was manufactured from 1898-1907, with this example having an original factory silver finish, S&W gold-leaf medallion pearl grips, and matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder, barrel, and barrel latch. The revolver is complete with an original S&W labeled factory deluxe case containing a bore brush. An included 3x5 inch notecard traces the revolver's provenance. The notecard reads in part, "Given to Sarah Perrine Ferris by her parents, Wilson Perrine Ferris and Elizabeth Malloy Ferris, while she was a student [at] Univ[ersity] of Chicago during a period of racial unrest....Descended thru family to grand-son John Ferris Martin. Excellent, retaining 98% of the age darkened original silver plating with areas of light blistering. 99% plus original blue remains on the barrel latch and trigger guard. Nearly all original case colors remain on the trigger. The grips are also excellent with highly attractive fiery colors. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with some scattered wear overall. These S&W factory deluxe cases are rarely found in any condition. This highly prized factory deluxe cased silver plated .38 Safety Hammerless 4th Model Revolver with provenance will be a great addition to any S&W collection.
