Description:

The rifles manufactured by Westley Richards were nicknamed the "Monkey Tail" by South African and Portuguese troops that were issued military variations of this design based on the shape of loading lever for the breech. This rifle does not have any visible maker markings or proofs, but it is marked with the Liege entwined "EL" provisional proof on the underside of the barrel along with "11.0," "J&W," and "PR." Features a fixed front sight that doubles as a socket bayonet lug, 1,250 yard graduated ladder rear sight, eight-groove rifling, blued barrel and barrel bands, iron ramrod, casehardened lock, brass forend cap, triggerguard, and buttplate. "DE" is marked behind the trigger guard, "G" is marked on the tail of the left stock flat, and "HJ" is marked on the inside of the lockplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 75% original blue finish thinning to a smooth brown patina on the balance with some light muzzle wear, 60% muted original case colors, and scattered patches of moderate pitting. Stock is also very fine with some scattered light scratches and handling marks, some lines in the forend from display, and a pin-sized hole in the left of the buttstock likely from a display plaque. Mechanically excellent.
