Description:

Manufactured in 1943 with standard markings as well as the rare and desirable "U.S. PROPERTY" marking on the right side of the frame. It is fitted with blade front and flat top notch rear sights, and checkered grips with Colt medallions. This pistol's serial number falls between two identified General Officer's pistols, serial numbers 136806 and 136895. The included Kraft style box is hand marked on the lid "Brig Gen Hickey/3rd Armd Div." and is hand numbered to the gun on the bottom. Doyle Overton Hickey (1892-1961) was a brigadier general in the U.S. Army 3rd Armored Division during World War II before being promoted to major general and commander of the division in March of 1945 after the previous commander, Major General Maurice Rose, was killed in action. Hickey went on to serve in the Korean War, serving as chief of staff for Far East Command in Tokyo under Douglas MacArthur and his successors, and played an important role in the planning of operations during the Korean War. During his service, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal twice, four Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star. He retired in 1953. The book "The Colt Pocket Hammerless Automatic Pistols" by Brunner lists General Hickey as having been issued a .380 pistol but does not list the serial number. Also includes a 3rd Armored Division shoulder patch and pin, as well as an extra magazine and bore brush.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine, retains 95% plus of the original blue finish with some light edge wear and scattered light spotting. The grips are excellent with a few scattered minor blemishes in the otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine with some tape repair, separated corners of the lid, mild wear, and staining.
