Description:

The grouping includes a set of Ranger "scroll" patches representing the 1st through 7th Ranger Battalions, with two for the 5th Battalion (one noted by the consignor as English-made), and the 4th Battalion scroll noted as Italian construction, along with a patch for the 83rd Chemical Battalion (which deployed via glider into Southern France during Operation Dragoon to provide heavy mortar support), a scarce "Jackass" patch for the 98th Field Artillery Battalion, and a scarce French-made patch for "T Force". The 98th Field Artillery started life as a horse and mule powered pack artillery unit, but when mule-hauled artillery was declared obsolete the unit CO decided to convert the outfit into the 6th Ranger Battalion, which distinguished itself in the Philippines, particularly during the "Great Raid" of the Cabanatuan POW camp. T-Force was a joint U.S./British effort to prevent vital resources from either being destroyed by the Nazis or captured by the Soviets, up to and including the remnants of the Nazi atomic bomb program. Provenance: The Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good overall, with mild staining and wear on the Ranger and 83rd Chemical patches.
