Manufactured in the mid to late 1960s, the 40X was the standard small bore competition rifle for the United States Military. The heavyweight barrel is fitted with front and rear dovetail blocks, with an additional block on the rear receiver ring, and holes drilled (one tap screw absent) for a receiver peep sight. The receiver is marked "U.S.M.C. PROPERTY" on the front ring above the caliber marking and serial number. The action is mounted with a Lyman Targetspot 20x scope. Mounted in a beavertail walnut stock with white line recoil pad.

Excellent, retaining 95% plus original blue finish with a few light handling marks, and some spots of thinning and plum coloration. Stock is very fine with a few light dings and scratches, a few small spots of darkening, and some cracking in the recoil pad. Mechanically excellent. Optics are clear with a crisp reticle.
