Description:

The final wartime revision of the Thompson submachine gun, the M1A1 replaced the articulated firing pin in the bolt with a fixed pin on the bolt face, which by that point had become the de-facto standard for SMG bolt design. While many steps had been taken to streamline the design in the name of wartime expediency, the M1A1 is still readily identifiable as a Thompson. Blade front and fixed peep rear sights, properly sans Cutts compensator and barrel fins, with a "GHD" stamp on the left side of the receiver. The underside of the receiver is marked "AOC", along with stampings from the Inter-American Import/Export Company of Sacramento, California, and the trigger housing is numbered "95775" and fitted with a "FULL/AUTO" and "SAFE" selector switch and "FIRE" and "SAFE" safety switch. The internals are of the M1A1 pattern. Fitted with a smooth horizontal forearm, grooved pistol grip and a fixed buttstock, with the forearm altered by having the original sling swivel slot on the underside filled in and the swivel remounted on the left side. Included with the lot is a "U.S./JT&L/1942" tan magazine pouch, a green canvas case for an M1A1 paratrooper carbine, and two extra magazines.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 95% of the refinished parkerized finish, with patches of shallow pitting beneath the surface, a few spots of rust, and scattered handling marks. The buttstock is cracked at the wrist, with a decorative tack added to the leading edge of the comb and a number of scuffs and dents overall, with the forearm and pistol grip showing lighter wear. The accessories are in good order. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a restricted, National Firearms Act (NFA) Class 3, Fully Automatic Weapon, that is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
