This is a very scarce and desirable M16A2 carbine with the desirable short 11 1/2 inch "Commando" length barrel. This example has the transitional M16A1 upper receiver with the two position flip rear sight, combined with the M16A2 lower. It is fitted with a standard weight chrome lined barrel with M16A1 style birdcage flash hider (13 inches combined) and a bayonet lug. The front of the barrel is stamped "C MP C", and although not marked, it is probably the older standard 1-12 twist rate. "C/H" is cast into the carry handle. It has the late pattern lower receiver marked "(Rampant Colt logo)/COLT/M16 A2/CAL. 5.56MM./8029074" on the left of the magazine well. It also has the raised fence around the magazine release button, and the reinforced rear receiver ring. Both sides of the receiver are correctly marked with the ambidextrous marking of "SAFE/SEMI/AUTO" and the four-line Colt's Firearms Division address next to the selector switch. It is fitted with the correct short, ribbed, round "commando" length black plastic handguard, black plastic standard pistol grip with the early style, two position sliding buttstock. The bolt head and carrier are both matte black finished, with "C" on the carrier and "MPC" on the head. Magazine absent. Includes black nylon sling and plastic muzzle cap. Excellent, retains 98% original matte black finish with some light handling marks. The stock and grip are also excellent with minimal handling marks. Functions as it should in semi-automatic and automatic modes, mechanically excellent.
