This carbine was manufactured in 1917 and has "188/N.Y.S.T." on the buttplate. The New York State Police was official formed on April 11, 1917, and New York State Troopers adopted the Winchester Model 1894 as their service long gun that same year. The carbine has a tall pinned blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, two-line address on the right, the two-line model and caliber marking on the left, "WP" proofs on the barrel and frame, a saddle ring on the left, the three-line model and trademark on the upper tang, the serial number on the bottom of the frame, and "82" in a diamond partially over-stamped with a "4" just ahead of the trigger.

Very good with 90% period refinished blue overall. scrapes on the right side of the rear barrel band, smooth gray patina where the finish has faded, and minor overall wear. The wood is also very good and has some nice figure on the forend, attractive grain throughout, and some minor ding and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
