Description:

This rifle was manufactured in 1886 and special ordered to fit the specific desires of a now unknown marksman and looks like it would have made an excellent hunting rifle in the late 19th century. It features a Marble Sheard front sight, no rear sight dovetail on the part-octagon barrel which is marked with the two-line address and patent marking near the center and "44 W.C.F." at the breech, casehardened Third Model frame with integral dust cover guide rail, "44 CAL" on the elevator, tang mounted Lyman peep sight, deluxe checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with contrasting grip inlay and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Rifle will factory letter has having an octagon barrel in .44 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, half magazine, shotgun butt and casehardened receiver when received in the warehouse on December 9, 1886 and shipped the same day along with an “additional date” of July 24, 1894. It is our opinion that the half magazine was changed out to a full magazine when the rifle was returned to the factory in 1894.

Rating Definition:

Good with traces of original blue and casehardened finish, mix of dark brown and mottled gray patina on the balance, and general mild overall wear. The wood is also good and has visible but heavily worn checkering, a slight gap at the rear of the forearm, beautiful figure on the butt, some filler at the tip of the comb, some dings and scratches, and mild overall wear. Mechanically excellent. This rifle has a lot of "Old West" character!
