Description:

During the 19th and 20th centuries, canes reached their pinnacle of popularity, becoming a must have accessory for those wishing to publicly proclaim their social and economic status. This example would have been a fantastic addition to a worldly gentleman's wardrobe, showing somewhat exotic styling by Western European or American standards. The handle is a blued steel small hook shape which has been attractively engraved and gold inlaid in the Damascene style popularized in Toledo, Spain at the time. It features Arabesque vine and border designs, as well as three wyverns mixed in among the floral motifs. The hardwood shaft shows nice figure and is tipped with medium toned horn. It measures 33 inches overall.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retains most of the original gold inlaid Damascene patterns with a few areas showing some light wear. The shaft is also very fine retaining most of the varnish with some scattered light handling marks and flaking, as well as some mild wear on the horn tip.
