Cutler and gunmaker John Prosser operated at 9 Charing Cross, London, from 1796 to 1853 and then worked at 37 Charing Cross from 1854 to 1860. These pistols have long, rifled, Damascus barrels with fixed German silver blade and notch sights and Birmingham proofs. The locks are signed "PROSSER" and have scroll and border engraving. The casehardened breech plugs and standing breeches have shell, scroll, and border engraving. The blued trigger guards also have scroll engraving and enclose single set triggers. The trigger plates have engraved pineapple finials, and there are burst and border patterns engraved on the entry pipes. The wedge and wrist escutcheons are German silver. The stocks also have horn forend tips, checkered wrists with a profile similar to the later Colt Bisley revolvers, and flared pommel.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% plus original blue on the trigger guard, 40% plus muted original case colors, mix of gray and brown and distinct Damascus patterns along the barrel, minor pitting, and generally light overall wear. The stock is very good and has crisp recut checkering, light scratches, and smooth oiled finish. Mechanically excellent.

Very good with traces of original finish, mostly gray and brown patina, some minor oxidation and pitting, mild overall wear, and distinct Damascus patterns and engraving. The set trigger needs a little adjustment, but the lock is mechanically fine.
