Description:

Blued Damascus steel barrels with a single brass bead sight on the matted solid rib and chambers measured 3 inches with automatic ejectors. Per the consignor the barrels have high grade 3 iron crolle Damascus pattern. The casehardened boxlock action displays attractively carved bolsters and fine floral scrollwork surrounding game scenes depicting a pair of setters on the left, a pair of game birds on the underside, and a pair of pointers on the right. The gun features double triggers and a tang mounted manual safety switch. Beautifully figured, fancy multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and an ebony tip inlay and pistol grip stock with fleur-de-lis checkering, hard rubber grip cap, blank inscription shield, and hard rubber buttplate. The included factory letter confirms the current barrel length, gauge, grade, and barrel steel when the gun was finished on January 4, 1905 and sold to Norvell Shapleigh, the St. Louis based hardware company. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .718/.719 inches; choke constriction .013/.012 inches; minimum wall thickness .041/.038 inches; 1 7/8 inch drop at comb; 3 inch drop at heel; 13 1/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs 8 oz.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, showing a vivid blued Damascus pattern down the entire barrel, traces of original case colors on the action with attractive silver patina on the balance, chambers lengthened, a ding on the rib at the muzzle, mostly crisp checkering on the wood, and overall light handling evidence. Mechanically excellent.
