Manufactured by Harrington & Richardson c.1962-1963 and later rebuilt/refinished by a Jon R. Wilkinson of Cedarville, Ohio, the M14 was the follow-up to the M1 Garand rifle, conceived as a "universal weapon" a la the German FG-42. This "everything to everyone" approach hamstrung what was otherwise a perfectly suitable combat rifle, leading to a relatively early retirement of the weapon. No longer burdened with trying to be all things to all people, the M14 found new life as a specialist weapon, finding an audience with special forces units and snipers, as well as undergoing a renaissance in recent years with the emergence of the "designated marksman" concept. The M14 also found users abroad and on the home front, being adopted by the Border Patrol, National Park Service and the Department of Energy. Post front and adjustable peep rear sights, with "WRIGHT" windage and "FZR" elevation drums, "H-R 7790190 7 62 AE" barrel, "7790186/HRT A06/LT" bolt, "7267030-HR-N" trigger housing, "HR H" safety, "5546008-HR-N" hammer, "7267064 HRA" operating rod and an "OM" marked magazine. The fire control components are all present and accounted for, and the hardwood stock is marked with the Department of Defense cartouche on the left side and a circled serifed "P" on the wrist, with a green canvas sling and a folding shoulder rest covering the buttplate. A cut has been made through the right side of the operating rod channel, about an inch and a half ahead of the selector switch, which has been rewelded; while traditionally both sides of the receiver would be cut through when the military scrapped an M14, there is no trace of a filled cut on the opposite side. Included with the rifle is an ART II scope numbered "3276", Harris-brand bipod, slip-on flash hider, cleaning tools, extra stock and extra slings.

Very fine as restored/reactivated, with 95% of the refinished matte gray, showing some rubbing on the barrel and high edges, along with light cycling wear. The weld spot appears professionally executed, and produces no detectable interference with the bolt or op rod. The stock is very fine, with some mild scuffing on the handguard and dings on the wood. The optics are clear and crisp. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
