Manufactured in 1894, the first year of production, with the standard two-line address, "38-55" at the breech, three line model/trademark/patent date marking on the upper tang, and serial number on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with pinned blade front, folding ladder rear, and tang mounted peep sights, saddle ring on the left of the receiver, and a sling swivel stud on the bottom of the carbine stock. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate.
Very good, retains 30% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a plum-brown or grey patina with a few scattered patches of light pitting. The wood is also very good with some scattered minor dings and scratches, a minor pressure dent near the upper tang from fitment of a previous tang sight, and some small gaps around the buttplate. Mechanically excellent.
