Description:

Beaumont-Adams revolvers are usually encountered in 54 bore, 80 bore or 120 bore gauges. Larger gauge, larger frame examples of this double action patent are rare. The present example was retailed by Reilly, the famous Oxford Street based London gunmaker and retailer. With blued octagonal sighted barrel signed “REILLY. 315 & 502 OXFORD ST.T LONDON” on the topstrap. Blued border engraved frame marked on the right side “B.544./ADAMS’ PATENT No.16,349.R.”, blued cylinder marked “No.16,349.R.”, bright hammer, blued rammer, trigger guard and butt cap. Checkered walnut butt. London proof marks. In original fitted oak case lined in purple velvet, the lid with printed Reilly trade label. With some accessories including correct 38 bore double cavity brass bullet mold marked “REGISTERED/28 NOV./1851/R. ADAMS” within an oval stamp and also stamped “REILLY/OXFORD ST./LONDON”, a Reilly branded percussion cap tin, a Dixon & Sons brass mounted lacquered copper powder flask, wooden rod with worm and interchangeable heads for loading and cleaning, and two scoops.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and frame retain 97% original deep blue finish. The cylinder retains 98% of the period refinished blue finish and has the serial number softened with pitting visible under the finish. The trigger guard has turned to a plum color. The grip has well-defined checkering. Beyond the single action mechanism being at fault, mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are also fine, with some light rubbing and staining to the lining, minor staining to the trade label, and powder flask spring incomplete.
