Description:

Originally manufactured in the first half of 1945 by the Inland Division of General Motors, it was completely rebuilt/refurbished at a later date by Rock Island Armory of Geneseo, Illinois. An evolution of the M1 Carbine, the M2 was intended to give America's "second line" soldiers a boost in firepower without excessively disrupting the logistics train or manual of arms. Essentially a "drop in" assembly, the auto-fire components of the M2 could be swapped in or out as needed; many M2s started life as M1s, with several being converted and remarked before even leaving the factory (and later the factories leaving the "1" or "2" off to the very end of manufacture, so they could make the call based on the need at the time). Most factory/arsenal marked M2s were either destroyed at the end of their service life or gifted to foreign nations, leaving few on the American commercial market. Blade front and "PI" marked adjustable rear sight, with an "AI" bayonet lug, round bolt, "S" operating rod, unmarked milled trigger guard, unmarked hammer, "E.I." switch safety and unmarked M2 magazine catch. The stock is the "perch belly" style cut to accept the selector switch, with an "IO" marked 4-rivet handguard, an "HI" marked buttstock, green canvas sling and a checkered steel buttplate. Also included with the lot is a plain brown shipping box, six extra magazines, three "jungle clip" magazine binders and a brown leather sling. Provenance: The Al Walker Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine as remanufactured/restored, with 99% of the parkerized finish, showing some takedown lines on the sides of the barrel and mild handling marks. The lightly sanded, reoiled stock is very fine, with a few dings and scuffs. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
