Very Scarce Pre-World War I Imperial German DWM Model 1908 First Issue Unaltered Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with Unit Marking

Among the first Model 1908 Luger pistols acquired for the German military, this Luger shows a number of features that would be altered in later production. It was manufactured without a stock lug or hold-open device; while many military Lugers would be retrofitted to have a hold-open, this example has gone unaltered. Blade and notch sights, with an undated blank chamber, "Imperial Eagle" firing proof and two "crown/gothic letter" proofs on the left side of the receiver, and a set of "commercial" pattern serial numbers instead of the more visible "military" pattern on later Lugers. The "DWM" monogram is present on the toggle link, additional "Imperial Eagle" proofs on the barrel and breech block, "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" marked safety area and extractor, checkered grips, and a nickel finished magazine with unnumbered hardwood base. The front strap is marked "19.U.3.1", possibly indicating the 19th Uhlanen Regiment (aka the 1st Wuerttemberg Uhlanen Regiment, "Koenig Karl") of the Imperial German Army. The 19th mobilized for World War I as a component of the 27th Division of the XIII Army Corps (aka the Royal Wuerttemberg Corps), which saw action on both the Eastern and Western Fronts.

ConditionFine, with 70% of the original blue finish, showing some bright edge wear, areas of brown and gray patina, mild spotting and scattered handling marks. The straw and niter blue finished parts retain 40% intact and have turned an aged gray, with some traces of the original colors in the protected areas and mild spotting. The grips are also fine, with mild dings and dents. Mechanically excellent.
