Description:

Hand-chased and Engraved, 14 – 18K Gold Mounted Cane inscribed on its top, "Colonel, from the Colts, 1905", hallmarked and serialized #1191. The staff of ebony or black “ebonized” enamel finish with heavy metal ferrule at the tip and accompanied with its original cloth case. The gold top is highlighted with exquisite carvings around its circumference. There is no provenance with this cane, however we agree with the consignor that “Colonel”, likely refers to President Theodore Roosevelt as he was famously referred to as “Colonel” from the time of his historic command of “The Rough Riders” in the Spanish-American War until his death in 1919. Additionally, “The Colts” likely refers to brothers Samuel Pomeroy Colt and LeBaron Bradford Colt, both Republican Politicians from Rhode Island, friends of Roosevelt and nephews of Samuel Colt of Colt Firearms fame. The cane was likely given to “The Colonel” to celebrate his inauguration as President of the United States in 1905. The Colt factory did of course present then sitting President Theodore Roosevelt with a 1902 semi-automatic pistol in the spring of 1903, as sold by RIA December 2011. A fine and rare example of Colt and Presidential memorabilia. Overall length – 35.75”. Gold top is 1&7/8” tall and 1&1/2” at its widest point. A potentially striking addition to any collection of Arms or Artifacts relating to the celebrated President.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, showing little to no use as expected from an important presentation.
