Description:

The smoothbore barrel has a bayonet lug on top that doubles as the front sight and a pair of Ordnance private proofs on the left at the breech. The lock has "WW/Mason" signed at the center. The furniture is brass. The trigger guard has an acorn finial, and the buttplate has "89" on the tang. The stock is lighter in construction than the full-sized Brown Bess military muskets of the era. Thousands of muskets were manufactured in the early 19th century for the British volunteers who formed units to protect the United Kingdom in the event of a French invasion during the Napoleonic Wars.

Rating Definition:

Fine with mostly silver-gray patina on the lock and barrel with some light speckled oxidation, attractive aged patina on the brass, and generally minor age and storage related wear overall. The stock is also fine and has numerous mild scratches and dings, a few dents, and glossy varnish. Mechanically excellent.
