Description:

Measuring 15 5/8 inches overall, with a 10 1/2 inch spear point blade with a diamond cross section. The hilt is carved bone or antique ivory, with leaf patterns to the guard, feathering on the pommel, and the cylindrical grip dominated by a carved rendering of the coat of arms of Poland. The sheath is of similar construction, prominently featuring the unlabeled busts of four kings. While not positively identified, one is wearing what appears to be the "Muscovy Crown" of Ladislaus IV Vasa, King of Poland from 1632-1648 and elected Tsar of Russia in 1610. Provenance: The Dr. Gerald Klaz Collection

Rating Definition:

Good. The blade is fair and shows a mixed gray and brown patina, with edge nicks and scattered spotting. The guard has been broken and repaired and the sheath shows age cracks, otherwise the furniture is in very good condition, with minor chipping, handling marks, and strong detail.
