Description:

This is a solid representative example of an 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol that was manufactured by DWM. The Borchardt was the direct forerunner for the Luger pistol (this example was even made by the same company DWM) that featured a toggle bolt and distinctive grip in the center of the frame. The pistol is complete with an original attachable walnut stock and black calf-skin holster that attaches to the stock. The top of the toggle is roll-stamped: "D.R.P./No.75837" in two lines. The right side of the receiver is roll-stamped: "SYSTEM BORCHARDT. PATENT./DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN./BERLIN" in three lines. "Crown/B", "crown/U" and "crown/G" German commercial proof marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel. "Crown/B" and "crown/U" proofmarks are stamped on the left side of the receiver near the chamber and on the left side of the toggle. The serial number, "1681" is stamped on the underside of the barrel, the rear toggle link, the left side of the trigger, and on the underside of the butt. The magazine is numbered "1232". The front grip strap has been numbered "5786", the significance of this is unknown. With an unmarked board stock and attached leather holster. The Borchardt semi-automatic pistol is beautifully made. It is historically significant as one of the first successful semi-automatic pistols and the predecessor of the Luger pistol.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 40% of the scattered period refinished blue remaining overall and some scattered cold blue touch up finish subsequently applied on the chamber frame and grip straps area. The grips are both in very fine original condition with minimal handling marks and nice original distinct checkering on both sides. The walnut stock is fine showing most of its original factory finish with only minor handling and rub marks on the side where the leather holster has contacted the stock. Mechanically excellent. The black leather holster is good with a small portion of the original leather surface still intact on the holster. A very nice, solid representative example, of a desirable model 1893 DWM/Borchardt semi-automatic pistol.
