Description:

Also known as "Big Colt" from advertising during its era, this revolver was manufactured in 1876. The top of the barrel has very scarce the two-line Colt Pall Mall London address. The left side of the barrel is marked in an etched panel "COLT NEW 41." There are London proof marks on the underside of the barrel and each cylinder flute. The casehardened frame is stamped "C," indicating centerfire, on the left side. Includes an oak presentation case with Colt London Agency interior label, cleaning rod, key, and four.41 CF cartridges. The brass lid inscription inlay reads, "AUG. FRED./THISTLETHWAYTE." One possibility is Augustus Frederick Thistlethwayte (c. 1830-1887) who was born in Hampshire, England and officially died from an accidental pistol shot, although many believed it was suicide.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 75% original blue finish. The frame retains 50% vivid casehardened colors with the back strap mostly silvered out and light spotting at the top of the left grip. The grips are very fine with a few scattered blemishes and a tiny chip in the left toe. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with minor handling/storage marks and clear Colt London label. A London agency cased Colt etched panel New Line .41 Revolver with scarce and highly sought after Colt London address missing from even the most advanced collections.
