Description:

Founded in 1933 as a subset of the Sonderpolizei, the Postschutz was responsible for providing physical security for the German Post Office, which was the controlling organization for mail, television, telephone and radio operations in the Reich. Originally operating without a standard issue dagger, the Postschutz-Fuhrerdolch was introduced in 1939 and authorized for wear by leaders and officials in the organization. 9 3/4" double edged spear point blade, with the Paul Weyersburg (Solingen) marking on the left ricasso. Nickel finished pommel and guard, with the latter shaped like a spread winged eagle with a black swastika on its chest, and the smooth black grip is marked with the post office logo. The underside of the guard "wings" are marked "985" and "DRP", indicating this as post office property and not a privately purchased blade. Black enamel painted sheath, with nickel throat, tip and rings, and a chain belt hanger. Provenance: The Paul Crockett Jr. Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, with some light handling marks.
