Manufactured before 1897. With a single brass bead sight on the solid, smooth concave rib marked "W&C. SCOTT & SON. PATENTEES. LONDON". With 2 3/4 inch chambers and chokes both gauging at improved cylinder. This classic British hammer gun features a top lever operating a Purdey bolt by way of a Scott spindle. The casehardened frame features tight highly detailed English style floral scroll engraving with large sunbursts at the main hinge and each lockplate marked "W&C SCOTT & SON". The trigger guard and lower tang are similarly engraved and marked with the serial number. With standard late 1800s British proofs on the underside of the barrels and both the Scott and Purdey patent markings on the water table. Mounted on a checkered walnut splinter forearm and straight grip stock with a smooth engraved steel buttplate. Length of pull is 14 inches.

Fine with traces of original brown finish on the barrels with strong Damascus patterning. With some small dings at the muzzle and edges of the flats. The barrel legend and engravings are crisp. The action has some vibrant case colors in the more protected areas with the balance aged to a mostly silver/gray patina with clear markings and detailed engravings. The wood is fine with scattered indentations and scratches and some bruised checkering in the forearm. Mechanically fine.
