Over a half century ago, Colt produced 500 each of 12 different .22 Frontier Scout Kansas Series revolvers. These commemorated four each of Kansas Trails, Kansas Cowtowns, and Kansas Forts. Each set was assigned serial numbers of 1 through 500 combined with two or three letters indicating the variation. As examples, Kansas Cowtown Dodge City commemorative revolvers were numbered 1KD (Kansas Dodge) through 500KD, Kansas Fort Riley commemoratives 1FR (Fort Riley) through 500FR, and Kansas Santa Fe Trail commemoratives 1SF through 500 SF. This is set number one. While most of the production was individually cased, or cased in groups of four, this first set is cased in three cases of four, with each of those cases fitting as a drawer into a large factory case that holds all twelve revolvers. Each of the twelve variations has a different unique combination of features – finish (many variations are two-tone), grip material, and fluted or unfluted cylinder. Each is marked on the barrel with the commemorative subject and two dates a century apart. For example, the Kansas Cowtown Coffeyville revolver is marked “1866 – KANSAS SERIES – COFFEYVILLE – 1966.” Issued in 1966. Standard markings and features. Includes a Kansas Cowtowns commemorative case containing all four Kansas Cowtown revolvers, with lid plaque reading "SERIAL #1" as well as a case for all three cased sets with the same plaque on top.
